Cyclist Sideswiped and Injured near El Cajon

California Highway Patrol responded today, April 17, 2018, to a bicycle accident.

According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, a 67yr old woman from Spring Valley drifted to the right, sideswiped the cyclist, then hit a sign, mailbox and a pickup truck.

According to the article, the injured cyclist was a 58yr old man from Alpine, California, and he was taken to San Diego’s Sharp Memorial Hospital.

The accident occurred on Olde Highway 80, east of El Cajon, California.

Sideswipe accidents usually occur when someone is attempting to overtake a cyclist. In this case, the driver drifted off of the road.

Police are currently investigating to see if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Other reasons for this to occur could include distracted driving or a medical condition.
