Reckless Driver Kills Berkley Cyclist, Flees the Scene, Gets Arrested

On August 27, 2017, a Berkeley cyclist was hit near Guerneville. That cyclist was Christopher Patti, age 59. Patti was the chief campus counsel at UC Berkeley. Tragically, the 59yr old man was killed in the accident.

Jonathan Ritter was the driver who hit Patti. After the accident occured, Jonathan fled the scene, leaving behind a license plate. The license plate would lead to his arrest days later and Ritter was expected to be booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit and run causing death.

According to news reports, it sounds like the BMW Ritter was driving may have been a borrowed vehicle. It also sounds like he lost control of the vehicle while driving recklessly and slid into the cyclist.
