Concord Cyclist Killed in Truck Collision

15-year-old Sergio Pop-Pacheco was riding his bike in the north crosswalk at Fry Way along Willow Pass Road in Concord, California, when he was struck by a pickup truck. It is believed that the accident killed Pop-Pacheco instantly.

According to the East Bay Times, Police say that they do believe that the 40-year-old driver from Fairfield, California, was under the influence at the time that the accident occurred. The accident occurred about 6:51 PM on February 18, 2018. Police say that dusk may have been a factor in the accident. They are also examining other possibilities including the color of clothing that Pop-Pacheco was wearing and if there were reflectors on the bicycle.

The Concord Police Department is asking for the public’s help as they investigate this case further. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to call Officer Matt Forristall at 925-671-3172. Police, however, say that the driver called them immediately and has been fully cooperative. Concord officers met with the Pop-Pacheco family on February 20, 2018, to see what details they could provide.
