Deadly Bike Accident in Natomas – Driver High on Marijuana

At 11:58 AM on June 16, 2018, the Sacramento Police Department received a call that a vehicle had hit a bicyclist near the South Natomas Library. Upon arriving at the scene on Truxel Road, officers discovered that 22-year-old Anthony Hernandez Vega, who they believed to be high on marijuana, had struck a teen resulting in serious injuries to the young man. Despite the fact that the teen was transported to an area hospital, doctors were unable to save his life. Tragically, the bicyclist passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2018.

The Sacramento Police Department said that they detained Anthony on Driving Under the Influence charges. They have not released a statement on whether those charges will be upgraded since the bicyclist passed away. It is possible that officials may upgrade the charges to first-or-second-degree murder depending on whether they think that Anthony acted with malice and if he has been convicted of driving under the influence charges before.
