Lieutenant Mark Padilla and his assistants at the Fresno County Coroner’s office pronounced 67-year-old Bernadino Delariva of Selma, California, died on Friday, February 3, 2018.
Selma Chief of Police Greg Garner says that Delariva had been riding his bike on the sidewalk along Highland. He entered the crosswalk at the same moment that a city-operated garbage truck was preparing to make a right hand turn off Floral onto Highland. The truck struck Delariva who was in the crosswalk, and it killed him instantly. The name of the garbage truck driver has not been released.
The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help cover funeral expenses. The unfortunate accident happened on the same day that everyone was gathered to celebrate Delariva’s great-grandson seventh birthday.
